New Years Resolutions For You & Your Pet
If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to make a resolution for 2018! As January comes to a close, there's no better time to think about the ways in which you want to improve the life of your pet in 2018. Discover some of the healthy changes you can make to the life of your pet that will also make improvements to your own.
- Spend more time at home. Whether you realize it or not, your pet misses you when you're away. From the 8 hours you spend at work to the countless times you're out socializing, your pet can get a little lonely. If 2017 was a very busy year for you, resolve to a little less in 2018. You'll save money and have more time to spend at home testing new hobbies or catching up on all that reading you've forgotten about. Plus, spending more time at home with your pet can decrease your stress levels - so you both win!
- Get to know your pet's health. Have you paid attention to your pet's diet in the last year? Do you know how much exercise your pet can handle, or the ways in which you can combat their boredom when you aren't there to play? There's always something new to learn when it comes to the health of your pet. Be mindful of this in the new year and make time to get to know the health needs (and wants) of your dog. StayDog’s in-home trainers can help educate you on the best ways to do so.
- Make grooming a priority. Brushing your dog can feel like a chore that only seems necessary during shedding periods, but regularly brushing them has a number of benefits. Daily brushing can remove excess fur and reduce the amount you find on clothes, furniture, and rugs, which can drastically cut down on your cleaning time. Brushing also helps distribute the oils on your dog’s coat, keeping it shiny and healthy. More importantly, routine brushings allow you to bond with your pet, showing them you love them in a very caring way.
- Try something new. Like humans, our pet’s routines can grow stale. Take some time in the new year to think about all the ways you can make small, positive changes to your pet’s life. Whether it's a new toy, a new food, or a new walking path, changing up your pet’s routine can be refreshing to you both.
